The Beach House

May 8th Jazmemo, Alfredo, and I moved into a beach house in Second Life! Jaz and I have had fun decorating it with furniture purchased at SL stores. We have a large gathering room with three sofas in it, a living room with a TV stocked by our landlord with movies, a game room with a Greedy table, a sunroom, three decks, two private changing rooms, and a bathroom. Don't know what to do with the latter and it's wasted space for us. Jaz got a cat and I have my dog, Company, in the house most of the time. Others from VBCPS drop over once in a while and I have shown most of my SL friends where we are. Once in a while an impromptu party begins. Come on by. The more the merrier!

The Big Meeting

Last night we had a meeting at my house about VBCPS folks finding a home. I should start calling it our house I guess. ;-) We are going to see if the Connecticut House at Cheswick fills the bill. There were seven of us there at one time or another, not all at once. The landlady added everyone as residents and they were able to rez items from their inventories. Alfredo had an especially good time rezzing loud boytoys like his helicopter and jet! Note to self: Help guys find a nearby sandbox for large items! We have a living room for gathering, a game room for the Greedy table (unless no one is ever going to play), a men's room and a ladies' room for changing, or whatever. Maybe the Greedy room needs to be a conference room with a large table and a bunch of chairs around it. I think we need to go ahead and pay for more prims so we can decorate more. :-) I can't wait to see if this experiment works. I think it will be fun, like living in a commune in the 60s! We will decide before May 10th if we want to continue.

My House

When I decided to rent a house in Second Life what I wanted was a comfortable, fun place for friends to gather. Last night it finally happened. Here are Wayne, Movies, Amethyst, Jerry, Cyrus and me. Later Janae also joined us. We played Greedy and Wayne beat me, the first game I've lost. It was fun to introduce friends who hadn't met before. It's so cool to have a party without having to clean or fix food first!

Early Hang Out Places

One of the most fun activities in Second Life is exploring. I've found some amazing places, some with the help of a book, How to do Everything with Second Life, and some with the help of friends, who take me to their favorite places. First places...
This is ISTE. When I didn't know anyone I'd hang out here. I still spend time here and bring friends here. My goal is to fill a table some day. :-) I've come close.
This is the library Kiwi showed me. This was my first encounter with pose balls, too. You right click them and "sit" and your avatar takes on a predetermined pose. My favorite here is lying on my stomach reading a book. I used to think nothing of going into a building like this and sitting for an hour or so. Now that I've lived with the social norms of SL for a while I feel like I'm intruding in someone else's space. Too bad. I never visit this library anymore.
This is another part of ISTE. Members of ISTE have socials every Thursday night at 6 pm SLT (Second Life Time), which is 9 pm for me. Sometimes there are topics of discussion planned that have to do with educational technology. Most of the time it seems to be just dancing and chatting. This is a photo of my first dancing experience. Just like middle school, some women are dancing. The rest, and all the men, are standing around the edges of the dance floor. :-)
